Reverend troy l. mamon

The Reverend Troy L. Mamon is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He was born on September 27,1965 to Perry and Kathleen Mamon. The second of three children, he clearly recalls the importance of knowing and serving God in the Mamon's household.

The Rev. Troy L. Mamon was educated in the Illinois School system, graduating with honors from East St. Louis Sr. High School; Class of 1983.He continued his education by attending Illinois State University where he received a B.S. degree in Finance with a double minor in Economics and Business Administration.

Rev. Mamon is married to the lovely Deborah Jean Mamon and from that union they have two beautiful daughters, Tracy and Katrina, as well as one granddaughter, Trinity Laryiah. The Rev. Troy L. Mamon accepted Christ at the age of 12, under the ministry and direction of the Rev. Dr. John H. Rouse of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East St. Louis, IL. After serving in several areas in the church in both East St. Louis, IL (Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church) and Atlanta, GA (Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Lankford), Rev. Mamon heard and accepted the call into the Preaching Ministry in September 2001. He was licensed as a preacher and teacher of the gospel in September 2002 where he served as Associate Minister from 2002-2005, and ordained in March 2005 serving as Assistant Pastor under Pastor Mark A. Couch of the Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church, Atlanta, Ga. Some of the positions he held at Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church include Leadership of the Pastors-Aide Committee, President of the Men’s Fellowship/Outreach Ministry and Chairman of Finance.

In 2007, after six faithful years of service at Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church, Rev. Mamon heard and accepted the call to the Pastoral Ministry wherein he planted and served as Pastor of Upper Room Gospel Tabernacle of Atlanta, Ga. located on the campus of Carver College-the institution where he received training in both theology & biblical studies. Under his leadership the ministries of Upper Room Gospel Tabernacle included Sunday Worship, Discipleship Training/Bible Study, Deacons Ministry, Usher Board/Hospitality Ministry, as well as the Giving Tree Outreach Ministry for under privileged children. The work and ministries of Upper Room Gospel Tabernacle produced consistent contributions toward Carver College’s annual budget to continue its efforts of “training to transform” men and women with a biblical worldview. In addition to supporting Carver’s annual budget, Rev. Mamon served as Director of Alumni Affairs from 2011 to 2013.

In April 2015, Pastor Mamon accepted the invitation to serve as Pastor of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Morrow, GA--where he is honored and extremely thankful for the assignment to serve as Shepherd/Pastor of God’s flock in the land of Travelers Rest. He intends to utilize his love for God, his love for God’s people, his passion/desire to see lives transformed through a relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as his ministry experience to serve and meet the needs of God’s people. Pastor Mamon continues to realize, that a “call to serve, is a call to be trained” thus, he is committed to sharpening his ministry skills-building upon the foundation of training from Carver College where he received a Bachelors in Theology & Biblical Studies as well as a Masters of Arts in Christian Studies from Luther Rice University & Seminary. He is currently pursuing completion of his Masters of Divinity in Ministry along with completing various courses and seminars in Organizational Leadership through AT&T University. He is very grateful to God for what his eyes have seen and what his ears have heard in 10 years of shepherding God’s people. Pastor Mamon expresses a sincere gratitude of thanks to the late Rev. Dr. John H. Rouse for countless hours of one-on-one and long distance training in the ministry; to Rev. Dr. Cameron Alexander for his fatherhood, mentorship and embracement as a son in the ministry; to the Ministerial Alliance of Antioch Baptist Church North for their brotherhood and support; and to the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Crummie for his continued guidance & mentorship for the Pastoral Ministry and biblical training/education. To GOD be the glory!!

TRMBC WE GROW

Abou the pastor

In the year of our Lord 1904, Mother Harriet Medders and a few Christian believers began having prayer service in her home. Little did they realize that from this humble beginning, one of God’s most powerful churches (Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church) would evolve and serve as a beacon for generations to come.

History indicates that Mother Laura Harris and Mother Lena Butts were among the early supporters of this Christian movement. Reverend Stanley, a local preacher, and his wife joined the small group. He preached and provided spiritual guidance and support. Later, Reverend Strickling joined this dedicated congregation and added to its spiritual growth. As with all ventures anointed by God, this small gathering grew in number and strength.

One evening someone suggested the need for a church home, so they rented a small log house on Stewart Avenue in Hapeville, Georgia. This was fine for a while, but the desire to expand was present even then. Later a decision was made to purchase a piece of land and build a permanent worship place.

The first church was built in Harperstown on a small lot owned by Uncle Ike Gibson, one of the early members. Sister Mollie Stanton suggested Travelers Rest Baptist Church as the name, which was accepted and officially sanctioned.

As time passed, a host of other members joined the church family. The first pastor was Reverend Berry Mackay. Under his leadership, the small membership flourished. History gives the names of Brother F. B. Chartie, Sister Etta Williams, Mother Sallie Jones, Mother Lena Butts (who put on the first rally for the church), Deacon John Butts and Deacon William Lyons, as some of those serving during this time.

It was destined for the church to relocate because the county bought the little church out. However, unshaken in their faith, the church relocated to a lot on Browns Mill Road. Holding true to the meaning of its name, the church occupied this location for quite a while. The Lord blessed the flock with a series of great leaders. In order of their service, they were: Reverend Mackay, Reverend J. J. Weems, Reverend S. J. Harris, Reverend E. R. White, Reverend King, Reverend Hendricks, Reverend J. S. Streets (under whom the Mother’s Board was organized), Reverend Freeman, and Reverend L. A. Jackson (under whom the Matron Circle was organized).

In late 1954, after a fifty-year period of harmony, a series of events caused the congregation to split, but God’s tiny fortress on Browns Mill Road was not destined to fail. On March 13, 1955, the Lord sent a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Reverend T. W. Hobbs to Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church with a desire to bring together a divided congregation.

Beginning with approximately 35 remaining members, Reverend Hobbs prayerfully worked with the faithful few. In 1957, the church was given a breath of new life. A major renovation project was undertaken which modernized entire sanctuary.

Shortly afterwards, the local area began to change into an industrial complex. Once again, the church was forced to seek another location. On November 25, 1964, the church moved from the Browns Mill Road structure.

On May 30, 1965, the congregation officially entered the new facility at 3585 Gilbert Road in Southeast Atlanta. Over the years the membership grew to over 1,000 with Reverend T. W. Hobbs guiding us in many accomplishments.

On March 11, 1990, Reverend T.W. Hobbs retired and received official notification by Proclamation that he would be titled “Pastor Emeritus”. Reverend William L. Brown, Sr. became our Pastor on June 17, 1990. Under the leadership of Reverend Brown several ministries and annual events were established. In 1994, we had our first Mass Dedication of Children Ceremony and Mass Renewal of Vows Ceremony. We work diligently to keep our Youth and Young Adults active with such activities as Call to Manhood (for young men), and Seminars for Young Men and Women with experienced teachers and speakers. Over the years, Travelers Rest has been blessed to enhance and beautify its appearance outside as well as inside.

Additionally, under Reverend Brown’s leadership, The Administrative and Advisory Ministry was formed as well as the Male Ushers Ministry (March 1998). In July 2000, the church reached its technological pinnacle by starting its own computer lab. By way of generous donations, several computers were acquired for the purpose of training and improving the skills of those wishing to become computer literate in this technical age. Also, in March 2001, the Young Adult Ushers Ministry was formed.

In 2004, due to the expansion of Hartsfield Airport we moved to our current location at 6021 Maddox Road, Morrow, GA. As a farewell to the old and embracing the new, balloons went up symbolizing us praising God for our past as well as our future. The route from the old church to the new church took us from Ruby Harper Boulevard to Conley Road, traveling from Conley Road to Jonesboro Road, continuing on to Rex Road to our new location on Maddox Road.  Our new location tripled the size of our church space. In addition, we gained a separate administrative building and a Family Life Center. An addition next to the church is the Fellowship Hall. In addition, to the new space, the church has ordained two new Ministers, one Deacon, and three Deaconesses.

In August 2014, God called one of his great workers, Pastor William L. Brown, Sr. home and the church was without a Pastor for eight months. Through God’s grace the church remained faithful and continued its normal operations under the leadership of Reverend Anthony Greenleaf, Evangelist Lakesia Lawrence, Reverend Timothy Green, Reverend George Shine, Evangelist Pamela Boyd, Elder Lonnell Carter and the Leadership Committee (Brenda Gibson, Chairman). After many prayers, on March 28, 2015 Reverend Troy L. Mamom became the new Pastor for the church. On Easter Sunday, April 05, 2015, Pastor Mamon preached his first sermon and was his official installation service was held on Sunday, August 11, 2015.

On Sunday, May 31, 2015 during The Family and Friends Day celebration, TRMBC Family Life Center was officially named W. L. Brown, Sr. Activity Center in honor of Reverend William L. Brown, Sr.

Today we stand strong and proud, our Cross placed in the Sanctuary so that we are facing the Cross as we look toward the beautiful heavens of our true and living God and give glory and praises to God for His goodness, and His blessings. We are so Thankful to Him for having brought us such a long, long way as we Go Reach, Teach and Win Men for Christ.
